In a new interview, The Who frontman Roger Daltrey described the Rolling Stones as a “mediocre pub band.”
This comment came when the Coda Collection asked Daltrey about The Who’s contemporary bands, including the Stones and Led Zeppelin.
Appreciating Rolling Stones lead singer Mick Jagger‘s work, he said, “You’ve got to take your hat off to him. He’s the number one rock ‘n’ roll performer.”
But in a subsequent statement on the legendary rock band, Daltrey said, “But as a band, if you were outside a pub and you heard that music coming out of a pub some night, you’d think, ‘Well, that’s a mediocre pub band.'”
Daltrey’s comment comes barely a month after Beatles legend Paul McCartney called the Stones a “blues cover band.”
In the interview, Daltrey also reflected on his time in music and the long history of The Who.
