Marilyn Manson Loses Grammy Nomination For Best Rap Song

Marilyn Manson Loses Grammy Nomination For Best Rap Song

Controversial musician Marilyn Manson, who received two nominations for Grammys this year as a co-writer on Kanye West's Donda, lost one of the nominations after the Recording Academy revised its list of nominees.

Manson, whose official name is Brian Warner, received Grammy nominations in both the Album of the Year and Best Rap Song categories for his songwriting credits on West's "Jail Pt. 2."

However, he lost one nomination after the Recording Academy updated the Best Rap Song nomination to recognize the West/Jay-Z collaboration "Jail," which does not feature Manson as a songwriter.

Meanwhile, the shock rocker continues to be a nominee for the album of the year category for his work on Donda.

Manson currently faces several lawsuits filed against the rocker by his former girlfriends accusing him of abuse. In April, actress Esmé Bianco filed a lawsuit against Manson alleging she was the victim of sexual abuse by the goth rock singer.

Later, Manson's ex-assistant Ashley Walters also filed a lawsuit against the singer for alleged sexual assault. Several other women, including actress Evan Rachel Wood and model Ashley Morgan Smithline, have also accused the singer of abuse.

Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. had previously addressed the issue about both Manson and Louis C.K. receiving Grammy nominations despite allegations of sexual misconduct against them.

"We won't look back at people's history, we won't look at their criminal record, we won't look at anything other than the legality within our rules of, is this recording for this work eligible based on date and other criteria. If it is, they can submit for consideration," Mason Jr. said.

He "What we will control is our stages, our shows, our events, our red carpets. We'll take a look at anyone who is asking to be a part of that, asking to be in attendance, and we'll make our decisions at that point. But we're not going to be in the business of restricting people from submitting their work for our voters to decide on."

Dave Grohl, Greg Kurstin Cover Van Halen's Jump For 'Hanukkah Sessions'

Dave Grohl and producer/multi-instrumentalist Greg Kurstin covered Van Halen's "Jump" on the fourth night of their 2021 "Hanukkah Sessions."

"Quite possibly the loudest and proudest of hard rocking Jews, David Lee Roth has gone on record crediting his Bar Mitzvah preparation as his earliest vocal training," the Foo Fighters frontman and producer captioned the video. "He became a rockstar the day he became a man: Diamond Dreidel DLR and Van Halen.with 'Jump.'"

In the accompanying video, the pair try to imitate some of the moves from the band's original 1984 video, with Grohl crawling on the ground.

Grohl and Kurstin's "Hanukkah Sessions" was launched last year and lasts for eight consecutive days, with a different cover being performed each day.

The Linda Lindas Share Cat-Inspired New Single 'Nino'

The Linda Lindas Share Cat-Inspired New Single 'Nino'

All-female punk rock band The Linda Lindas have shared a new single inspired by vocalist/guitarist Bela Salazar's cat, "Nino."

The song is likely to appear on the Linda Lindas' next studio album, which is expected to release next year.

"Gentlemen by day/Hunter by night," Salazar sings of her cat in the song. "Friendliest cat you'll meet/Will protect you with all his might."

Salazar had previously paid tribute to her other cat, a Siamese named Monica, on the Linda Lindas' 2020 self-titled EP.

The punk rock band went viral after they shared a song, called "Racist, Sexist Boy," which was about an experience the band's drummer Mila de la Garza, who identifies as Asian-American and Latinx, had when a schoolmate made a racist comment before the COVID-19 pandemic.

The video became a viral social media hit, earning praise from Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello, Red Hot Chili Peppers's Flea, Thurston Moore, and Bikini Kill's Kathleen Hanna.

The band inked a record deal with Epitaph soon after, and the following month they made their late night television debut on "Jimmy Kimmel Live."

Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi Returns With New Song, Cologne 'Scent Of Dark'

Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi Returns With New Song, Cologne 'Scent Of Dark'

Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi recently launched a new cologne and released a new song, both named "Scent of Dark."

The "Scent of Dark" track is Iommi's first rock composition since Black Sabbath's 2013 album, 13.

Iommi created his signature cologne alongside his friend, perfumier Sergio Momo, who strums the guitar in the new track. Jimmy Crutchley plays bass, Ash Sheehan handles the drums, and Iommi's longtime producer Mike Exeter plays keyboards. Rebecca Rose and Julianne Bourne play cello and violin, respectively.

The "Scent of Dark" video, shot by the musicians at Sudeley Castle near Gloucestershire, England, features copious cologne imagery.

Iommi said Momo sent him a box of perfumes last year and asked him whether he would be interested in doing his own perfume.

"I had to write down all the different smells that I like, and then he built perfume from that," Iommi told Rolling Stone. "Sergio also loves music, and he plays guitar. He said, 'What about doing a tune for the scent?' And we thought it best to do an instrumental as opposed a having a vocalist. So I had this idea and I played it to him, and he liked it, and then I just added more parts to it to make it what it was."

Iommi had said earlier that he knew how Black Sabbath fans would react about his decision to develop his own perfume, saying, "They'll think I've gone mad. It's something I would've never thought of involving myself in. But it's been nice to be involved in it."

Mötley Crüe Sell Recorded Music Catalog To BMG

Record label BMG has announced that it has acquired the entire recorded catalog of Mötley Crüe.

BMG said the deal is the largest single catalog acquisition since the global music company was founded in 2008.

The agreement includes the iconic band's entire recorded output spanning their 40-year career totaling nine studio albums from their 1981 debut Too Fast For Love through the latest release in 2008 Saints of Los Angeles, as well as several platinum-selling live albums and compilation sets.

It comes as the band are on a new high after Netflix biopic The Dirt converted a new generation of fans with an astonishing 92 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes for the 'warts 'n' all' movie.

"It feels amazing to be collaborating with our new partners at BMG. Their extensive track record of success in Rock made them the perfect home to continue preserving and growing our musical legacy, ensuring we always stay at The Top," Mötley Crüe said in a statement.

Mötley Crüe's manager Allen Kovac added, "After working side by side with BMG for well over a decade, the relationship we have developed and success we've accomplished over the years made this a very easy transition to entrust with this treasured Rock catalog".

In June 2022, Mötley Crüe will kick off their previously postponed U.S. stadium tour, marking the group's return to the stage for their first major concert run since 2015.

BMG said its global catalog team will embark on its plan to re-promote the heavy metal band's work beginning in 2022.

Queen's Brian May Slams 'Frightening' Move To Scrap Gendered BRIT Awards

Queen's Brian May Slams 'Frightening' Move To Scrap Gendered BRIT Awards

Queen guitarist Brian May slammed the BRIT Awards over their decision to scrap gendered categories, describing the "frightening" move as "a decision that has been made without enough thought."

May's sharp criticism comes after the BRITs scrapped the male solo artist, female solo artist, international male solo artist and international female solo artist categories and introduced two gender-neutral categories - artist of the year and international artist of the year.

The BRITs explained the change was to reward artists "solely for their music and work, rather than how they choose to identify or as others may see them" and was part of the event's "commitment to evolving the show to be as inclusive and as relevant as possible."

The decision to change the BRIT Awards' system came after non-binary singer Sam Smith criticized the awards for a lack of inclusivity.

During ITV's Palooza event in London on November 23, May told The Mirror that the decision has been made without enougth thought. "A lot of things work quite well and can be left alone," he said.

"I get so sick of people trying to change things without thinking of the long-term consequences," he added. "Some of these things are an improvement, some of them are not."

May felt there was an "atmosphere of fear everywhere because people are afraid to say how they really think," adding, "I think so many people are feeling, 'Hang on, this isn't quite right.' But they don't dare say anything. Eventually, there will be some kind of explosion."

He added: "[Queen] would be forced to have people of different colors and different sexes and we would have to have a trans [person]. You know life doesn't have to be like that. We can be separate and different."

Blink-182's Mark Hoppus Shares Uplifting Message About Battle With Cancer

Blink-182's Mark Hoppus Shares Uplifting Message About Battle With Cancer

In an uplifting Thanksgiving message, Mark Hoppus shared about his battle with cancer and the current state of his health.

"I have so much to be thankful for today. This photo is from June, halfway through chemo, no idea if it was working or not, relegated to the bathroom floor, retching," the Blink-182 singer/bassist wrote on Instagram on Thanksgiving Day.

Hoppus, 49, also shared a photo of himself crouching by a toilet.

"If I ever complain about something trivial or unimportant, please show me this photo to remind me of how bad things can be, and how truly blessed I am. I hope you all have an amazing day with friends and family. Happy Thanksgiving," he added.

Hoppus had revealed in June that he had been battling cancer for three months.

He has been giving regular updates on the treatment for Stage 4-A Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma since then.

The "What's My Age Again?" singer announced in September that he is cancer-fee.

Hoppus said that he still has to get scanned every six months and it will take him until the end of the year to get back to normal.
